Do you have a clearly defined future?
If you don’t have a clear vision, you can’t move toward it.
THINK ON IT: Do you have a clearly defined future?
Your company was founded on a vision—one that would change the world and improve the lives of others, either directly or indirectly through the flow of commerce. That vision fueled its founders, perhaps you, to take risks to bring it to life. It was compelling enough to warrant wholehearted pursuit.
But what's the condition of your organization’s vision today?
Is it as compelling as it once was? Or has the earlier vision that gave birth to your enterprise now become clouded with disconnected value propositions, diverse markets, and must-do responses to competitive actions?
Is it as clear as it once was? Or would your employees struggle to say what you’re here to accomplish?
Is it driving strategic tension? Or, is your team just surviving the day’s crises?
Having a clear and compelling future state is Part 1 to achieving strategic tension (I’ll offer Part 2 in the next post).
If your future state is not what it should be, one word can bring that back into focus—and help separate the important from the trivial. That word is why. Why are we in business to create what we want?
Vision reminds us of the answers to these questions, questions that must be repeated often lest we lose sight of our ultimate aim.
Think about that today, and your tomorrow will thank you.
