THINK ON IT: Is your idea factory humming?
Have you ever called for a brainstorming meeting only to discover there’s not a cloud in the sky? No ideas. Nada. From anyone. Even you.
Your idea factory is down. And that’s not good.
Leaders rely on ideas to lead their businesses, their markets, and to inspire their teams.
But good ideas don’t just snap on like a switch. They need to be fabricated; like in a factory. Any factory takes in raw material and through a series of processes, produces a finished product.
What raw material are you feeding your idea factory? And how is it being processed?
Do you read widely? Does your team? If so, how are any takeaways shared in your business?
Do you have an internal discipline to develop ideas? To require your team to put their thoughts on a topic in writing in advance of a meeting?
Do you bring in outside advisors to help shape your thinking? Do you go to conferences or hang out at events that aren’t directly connected with your business?
These are all practices of good idea factories, built by those leaders who know that creating an environment to cultivate ideas is every bit as important as the product they’re delivering.
Because one day, perhaps even today, they’ll need that good idea to bring their next stage of growth.
“Ideas can be life-changing. Sometimes all you need to open the door is just one more good idea.”
