How strong is your team alignment?
Cultivating a purpose-driven alignment is crucial to success.
THINK ON IT: How strong is your team alignment?
It's easy to assume our team knows our business objectives and strategy—and are aligned to meet them.
Yet, often what might seem clear to us is mystifying or outright misunderstood by our team. There are times we might even think it's more helpful to keep our strategy loose. Being a little vague, we may reason, gains us more latitude. It affords us more flexibility to pursue alternate courses of business.
In fact, it doesn't.
If you don't have clarity in your strategy, your team won't trust it. They cannot. One cannot pursue an uncertain objective. Nor will one take responsibility for missing a target that is blurry or keeps moving. You might even find them unintentionally committing mutiny.
So, think about the most pressing objective for your business right now: you know, the do-or-die, must-get-this-right objective that your team must have front and center. (Every business has one.)
Then ask yourself, on a scale of 1-10, how aligned is the team toward that objective? Is there a common understanding of what it will take? Is there discernable progress working toward it? Are they resolving issues amongst themselves in a positive way?
If you’re leading from reality, you’ll know why you rated your team where you did. Now your action step is to decide how to increase your rating by one point.
