Is scaling your business a priority or just a desire?

THINK ON IT: Is scaling your business a priority or just a desire?

It’s one thing to desire to scale your business; it’s another thing entirely to make scaling a priority.

Most leaders say they want to grow their business, to increase their number of customers or their revenue streams or net profit. But not every leader who says that is taking active steps to prepare the business for that growth.

Think of it as the difference between active exploration and just letting something take its course.

The leader who is actively exploring ways to make their business model better, tighter, more responsive is leading the business to a place where going viral won’t break it.

The leader who is running the show as-is and waiting for their business to break before they reinvent anything will never be ready to scale, no matter how much they say they want it.

Sure, there are some businesses that don’t want to scale. A lifestyle business often has other measures of success than size and scale.

But any leader caught in the trap of only responding to urgent needs as they arise isn’t ready to scale. The only growth they’ll experience is likely the kind that breaks them.

There are two choices we have in how we lead our businesses. We can be on a lazy river or on an expedition. I explain the difference and why that’s vital to scaling for paid subscribers below. (Become a paid subscriber here.)
